Kensington, dinner, laundry and routine
We have had 5 gorgeous days of sunshine for our first week in London. We have walked more than 5 miles each day as we get acquainted and explore our new city. But today there was an 80% chance of rain, so I had a back up plan.
We headed out at 11am (still jet lagged, staying up to late, waking up at 10am) for Kensington to the princess Diana memorial playground in Hyde Park. It was beautiful and sunny, if a bit chilly. When we got near Hyde park we grabbed Pret A Manger take away lunch and quickly walked with it to the memorial. As we got close it started to hail! What? It stopped one minute later and stayed sunny the rest of the day. I'll take it!!!
The playground was fabulous. Definitely a kid must do. It is guarded and they only let you in if you are a parent. Only the kids can use the bathrooms. The piece de resistance was a huge pirate ship. The kids had a great time.
My back up plan was the natural history museum (snore, but on every top ten list for London...) which would be close by. Instead we meandered through Kensington Gardens, through the amazing embassy houses, complete with machine gun guards and amazing mansions to Kensington High Street. Busy! We stopped at Cafe Nero, still not fans, a bit bitter, and then walked through the mania of busy Friday evening Bond Street, then caught the bus home.
We grabbed groceries at M&S for dinner. I got acquainted with our oven to make the ready made Indian food for dinner. It was so easy! It is like a microwave, only slower. Everyone loved the dinner, it was better than our favorite Indian place back home. Yum!
